The Institute is organized into the following Departments:

Research, Program Development and EvaluationThis Department represents the foundation of the Institute and works closely with scholars in the areas of Qur'anic Studies, the natural sciences and the behavioral sciences. Its objective is to produce responsible education theory that clearly identifies the human being and the processes of human growth and development. |
Parent EducationThe success of any educational program is enhanced by the participation of parents, particularly the mother, the first teacher. Therefore, the Parent Education Department is devoted exclusively to enabling parents to improve their educational development and to become better acquainted with strategies and techniques that will enhance parent/child interaction, communication and instruction. |
Teacher Education and CertificationThis department is concerned with the professional development and refinement of teachers - all teachers. The Department regards teaching as "a noble profession" and is constantly seeking to identify the qualities that constitute teacher excellence. This Department is committed to elevating the status of teacher in the society. The Teacher Education Department provides technical programs and teacher certification programs that credential teachers to teach in Islamic schools. |
Resource DevelopmentThe Resource Development Department draws from the findings of the Research, Program Development and Evaluation Department. This Department develops curricula, textbooks and instructional materials from an Islamic world view. The Resource Development Department is devoted to developing the materials and supplies needed by students, parents and teachers to enhance the teaching/learning process. One of the Department's objectives is to produce a developmental reading series. |
School ServicesThe School Services department draws from each Department of the Institute to service the needs of Islamic schools. School Services provides technical assistance in developing a school; evaluates existing programs; provides school improvement programs; student assessment and evaluation; and teacher and administrative assessment and evaluation as well as other supportive services. |
Information Dissemination, Publications and LibraryThis Department's objective is to develop a data base that will contain information on all of the Islamic schools in America and throughout the world. This data base will contain information on curricula, teaching methodology, teaching materials, etc. This technology would enable scholars and educators to access valuable information that would greatly assist the development and advancement of Islamic education globally. |
PublicationsThe findings that the Institute obtains through its research projects will be disseminated in America through a scholarly publication the Journal of Islamic Education. This publication will primarily address the philosophy of Islamic education and its impact on America.Another publication for teachers, administrators and parents, Al Madrassa, will be a monthly video magazine that will focus on the school and the classroom. |
LibraryThis Department will collect and chronicle historic and contemporary educational information in a resource library assessable to scholars, teachers and the general public. |
Media Services DepartmentThe Media Services Department uses state-of-the-art technology including satellite television, radio and video production, as instructional tools to disseminate information to students, parents, educators and the general public. A weekly television program addressing issues and their impact on children, parents, teachers and communities will be presented, in addition to programs demonstrating successful methodologies and instructional strategies. Segments of actual classroom interaction will be recorded and reviewed in various professional development programs for instructional purposes. The Media Services Department will also provide original productions that address the needs of Islamic schools, homes and communities. Viewing rooms will be open to the public at specified times. |
Professional Development DepartmentThis Department is responsible for providing administrators, principals, counselors, deans and other professional school staff with Qur'anic based approaches to organization, counseling and human relations to maximize unity, school effectiveness and educational excellence. |
Policy StudiesThe Policy Studies Department reviews public policy as well as analyzes the data received from all Departments of the Institute. This Department then develops education policy statements that are recommended to educational institutions, particularly teacher colleges, education policy makers, state and federal departments of education and ministers of education. |
